My name is Lena Nechet, I am a European fine art painter in California. I make original artwork by hand with archival materials in environmentally friendly studio settings. In representing ideas and feelings, I care almost exclusively about the composition and the accuracy of expression. My art signature includes my seal L∃N∀.
My preferred art genres are portrait, abstracts, and zen-brush gesture. In art as in poetry, I love ambiguity - in my work you might find optically illusive elements, complex facial expressions, dimensional transparency, as well as erotic suggestion and figurative abstraction. In the same time though, I am specific and sharp in delivering the message. My main sources of inspiration are meditation, mathematics, beauty of perception, and elegance of movement.
I painted in oil and practiced academic drawing since I was six. I grew up surrounded by art reproductions in books. In 2000s, I switched to acrylics. My media also include graphite, charcoal, pastel, and aquarelle, both transparent watercolor and gouache. Photography since 13 sharpened and sped up my compositional decision making, and then videography crystallized my rhythm. In fine art I do things that are impossible or way too hard to achieve in film or digital media.
After almost finishing each piece, I stare at it for days and weeks from different angles and add defining details to make sure another person will see what I see. My paintings must be able to become an ever-resilient spring for your mind, and I am motivated to start and finish them only if I see such potential.
Hundreds of my favorite artists influenced me, their works ground me in the world of diverse visual flow and hold me up to a standard I respect.
Visual art is one of my most sincere and deep means of communication, and I cannot be fulfilled without practicing it, I tried. Often though, I integrate poetry in my artwork.
Photographs of my paintings will be openly published on my website after the originals are distributed, while I remain the intellectual rights holder by law. I hope my images will increase happiness of people who see them, and perhaps create a connection between us.
I appreciate your attention.
