Wetsuit, for swimming in the Ocean

I like to swim in open waters. In Europe I did it mostly in seas or lakes, and here in California, San Diego County, I risk to go into the Ocean despite sharks sometimes attacking people. Here are a few of my routs near La Jolla, CA.

My 10-years older cousin and his friend had thrown me into deeper waters in a warm see the Summer I just turned 5, I made it back and loved swimming ever since, especially the wild type: outdoors. I used to swim through my childhood and youth in Summers, during two-three months daily, mainly in two seas and two rivers. I was born next to one of the rivers, and lived closed to another.

On the Black Sea I used to swim straight into the depth of it, away from the shore, and challenged myself to get back after I already was tired. The feeling to be back is unforgettable.

I swim for fun, medium or long distance.

Today, I'd like to share with you my most favorite routes in San Diego area - they are beautiful, in this places it is relatively easy to get in deeper waters crossing the surf that can be just crushing you down sometimes, and there are not so many disturbances.

This two are in La Jolla Cove from La Jolla Shores (blue, 2.18 mi / 3.51 km and to the Scrips Pier (red, 1.7 mi / 2.7 km). I can watch surfers from the deep on the red one.

And this swim is from Torrey Pines Beach. First time I made ~ 1.65 mi / 2.66 km there. The swells were high all the time, it was a fun ride on waves.

The swells were high all the time, it was a fun ride on waves. The Cliffs looked gorgeous from further away than from the beach line, but somewhat scary :) Seriously, when I looked at them first time I had a feeling they may fall down on me - I was pretty shaken by the waves by that time: that's all I can say in own defense :)

By the way, I turned back earlier, because a lifeguard from the last tower I left behind followed me and even jumped into the water to swim towards me and to warn about strong rip currents by the Black's Beach (down the coast, the direction I was swimming). He also told me that the area I was entering was not guarded so he would need more time if I need help. Wow, I was thankful for such care. The lifeguards here are very friendly and knowledgeable, I talked to several already, and they all were great.

I am happy that for the cold season I was lucky to get a new Orca triathlon swimming suit for 1/10 of the original price. It is size 3 - my size by the chart (I am normally XS, or 2-6 tops, 0-2 bottoms US sizes) - but a bit too short for me (5'5"). It feels smooth and non-restrictive, and hot as hell, but I have not been in the water in it yet :)
